Volunteer Project and Cookout @ Chastain Park

The Atlanta Hokies will be volunteering with the Chastain Park Conservancy on Saturday morning, April 8th. We’ll volunteer from 9AM to about 11:30AM or so and then the cookout/picnic will wrap up by 2PM. There’s a grill, chairs, tables, umbrellas, and we’ll have the Hokie cornhole boards setup. The chapter will provide hamburgers and hot dogs, along with water and sodas. Feel free to bring along chips or a side dish and anything else you’d like to drink (we’ve gotten the thumbs up on adult beverages). Both the volunteer and picnic are family friendly activities, so feel free to bring along the kids!

To signup, please RSVP on the Facebook event page or email us at

This activity is our way of participating in the Big Event which is a student-run community service effort put on by Virginia Tech each spring. Big Event T-shirts will be available for volunteers. It should be a great spring day outside with a little bit of work and a lot of fun with your fellow Hokies!

What is the Big Event?

Virginia Tech Big Event organizers help to establish service projects across the Blacksburg, Christiansburg and New River Valley area. The Big Event continues to grow in 2015 with 1,200 service projects scheduled and 8,000 volunteers signed up. Nationally there is participation by VT Alumni Association chapters and other universities, so the impact of the Big Event has quite a reach. For more information visit:
